Wilde had lectured at Saratoga on August 10 as part of his tour of The Catskills. He returned briefly after his tour of the Jersey Shore to stay with friends and lecture for a final time at the resorts at the end of the season.
After returning to New York from Saratoga, Wilde took a few weeks off during which time he attended the first nights of several Broadway theatre productions. He was even given a tour of the New York Stock Exchange. He resumed lecturing on September 25 in Providence, RI as he made a short tour of New England on his way to a second visit to Canada.
